Time Flies

They say "Time flies when you're having fun." Yes, that can be true, but, I believe, time flies no matter what. Today it has been two years since my daddy and I found my brother on the floor of his home. Jesus had come down the staircase and brought him to his eternal home.

So much has happened in those two years. Daddy's medical problems, hospital stays and his being called home. I know that my momma, brother and daddy's family were waiting to welcome him home. I bought a new car. Knowing my brother as I do, he would have been right there with me, and then asking for the keys to take a spin in it. If he did like he did with my Firebird, he'd probably try to peel out. An accident at the shop that left a hole in the ceiling and people in the hospital. Watching his grandkids grow up. Kaine is a teenager, Tori starting school. The birth of another granddaughter.

Today is a day that is sad for me because I miss him so much. I will spend the day remembering the good times with him, all that we shared together. But, I rejoice that he is no longer is pain, and is celebrating and praising God with the Angels.

I'm asking you to take time today, celebrating a life that is no longer on the rock we call home, but is in their eternal home with Jesus. Thank God for what they have done for you and others. Then go out and do something for someone else. Be a blessing to others.

Reading the Proverbs - Day 5

Five days down twenty-six more to go! Have you read Chapter 5 yet? My bible titled this chapter, Warning Against Adultery. The son must have been married or of marriageable age. The father was warning him against the perils of following the wrong path. King Solomon is credited for writing a good portion of the Book of Proverbs. He would have been told about his parents meeting and what followed. The Folly of Adultery.

My verse for today is from verse 21, "For a man's ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all his paths."

God sees all, knows all. Keep reading the Proverbs! It will change your life!

Blessings!

Reading the Proverbs - Day 4

Good Evening! This is Day 4 of our Reading the Proverbs. How is it going? Has there been anything in your reading that you have learned? Yesterday's reading, Chapter 3, I could have made 4 bible studies out of it. I think that is something to think about for the future, right!

What did you think about Chapter 4? In my NIV Study Bible, this chapter is titled "Wisdom is Supreme." My verse of the day is from verse 23, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

Guard your heart, guard your heart, GUARD YOUR HEART! Everything you do flows from your heart. Your heart can be deceived if you don't guard it. Now you may ask me, "Melva, How can I guard it?" My answer would be, you need to know God's word. You need to be in a good bible based study. You need to be in a bible based church with believers you can trust and lean on. If you don't know the truth, you will be lead astray.

Today's Proverb is you have to Guard Your Heart! Have a good evening and a great day tomorrow!

Reading the Proverbs - Day 3

Day 3 of Reading the Proverbs. How are you doing? Sometimes I read the bible like a to do list. Pick up bible, read lesson and check off the list. But since I have committed to reading and learning from the the Book of Proverbs, I have approached it differently. I read the chapter. Marking anything that jumps out at me. Then I go back and slowly read each verse. Meditate on what is written and how it applies to life. And yes, I do write, highlight and make notes in my bible. You can pick it up and see color highlights, pen or pencil notes, my thoughts in it. If I don't make notes, I will forget what I read and touched me.

Reading today's verses, I have a few that I want to tell you about.

1.) Most people know verses 5 and 6:

"Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding: in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight." NIV

Sometimes that's easier said than done. Trusting is not easy, and we want to think we understanding all there is in the bible. HA! I know I don't know it all. I encourage questions from my bible study group. I tell them that if I don't know the answer, I'll look it up, talk to others who might be able to help. In fact, I like questions. They keep me on my toes. But upon further reading of the verses, I found some that related to the Commandments, some that are good life lessons.

2.) Verses 11 and 12 talks about discipline. God disciplines those he loves. I love my son Peter. When he was little, it hurt me to have to punish him. But, I knew that he would learn from his mistakes and make better choices in the future. God wants us to make good choices. He is our loving father and his goal is for us is to receive his blessings.

3.) Verses 27 and 28, I wrote beside it, "Don't wait, you may not get another chance to help someone." I call it the "Scarlet O'Hara Syndrome." "I'll think about that tomorrow. I'll call and see if they need anything tomorrow." If you know or even think if someone needs help, Just Do IT!

4.) Verses 29, 30, 31 and 32 I wrote commandment #6 Do not murder; #9 bear false witness; and #10 do not covet anything of your neighbor. I don't think anything else needs to be said on these.

Did you catch any of these when reading Chapter 3? Which ones was your favorite?

Have a good night. See you tomorrow!

Reading the Proverbs - Day 2

Sorry I'm late with this post. Time just slipped away from me. But, I did read my chapter of Proverbs this morning. Usually, I wait until night to do my reading, but I want to get into a different groove. I'm waking up earlier in the morning to spend some alone time with God.

So, how are you doing in your reading? I have two different verses for day 2. First is verses 4 thru 6. "If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge & understanding." The next comes from verses 10 thru 11 "For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you."

I just realized I have a thing for knowledge with the Proverbs. But understanding the Proverbs will bring you knowledge. This chapter gives you some moral benefits of Wisdom. God gives us knowledge and understanding so we will know right from wrong. We will make choices that saves us from trouble.

Take time with God. Reading His word will lead to knowledge and understanding. Make the right choice and continue your reading of Proverbs.

Blessings to All!

Proverbs of the Day - Day 1

What a day, What a day! I spent the weekend visiting my son, Peter in Florida. I haven't seen him since he moved there in June. I miss him and Caroline very much. But kids grow up, move away and start lives of their own. I was able to go to Disney two days and spent the other days just hanging out with them and teaching Peter to cook family favorites.

A couple of weeks ago, I challenged you to read the Book of Proverbs, one day at a time, one chapter a day. The Book of Proverbs is like a family favorite recipe, we all have one and love to quote it. Today is the first day of this challenge and I will ask if you have a verse to share with the blogworld.

Here is mine: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." - Proverbs 1:7

Knowledge is power. Knowledge is to be used to defeat Satan and his followers. We all know someone who despise knowledge. Taunts, makes fun of those who seek it. But I believe they are fearful to know the truth. They don't want things to change in their life. They are listening to lies from Satan. Reading Proverbs will be expanding our knowledge of God and more ammunition for our Sword of the Spirit.

I pray that you who have committed to reading Proverbs, will continue with me in this journey, and maybe share with us your choice verse for the day.

Blessings to All!

Good Morning Friends

This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24 NKJV

What a good night sleep I was able to have last night! I woke up at five in the morning, just to see what time it was. But I was able to go back to sleep. YEA! Yesterday was another great day at church. I announced my challenge to my Sunday Study class to the congregation. I was able to pass out a few more booklets. Our challenge starts a week from today. You will want to gather your supplies: pen or pencil, Bible version of choice and your booklet. I am so excited about the month of August, spending more time with God. What a blessing you will receive when you spend time with God.

God has given you a gift of today! Go and enjoy it!

Blessings to All!
